Are you wasting your strength?

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschool-prep-rally/inspiring-elementary-schooler-cerebral-palsy-runs-amazing-400-154523256.html

Watch this video, cry and realize that sometimes getting up off the couch to do a lap around the block shouldn't be a chore. Be thankful for what you have and don't let your health slip away by sitting back and wasting your good legs, your strong back and  your strength. Watch this video and think: How easy do I have it? What is "Matt's" goal now that he has achieved that 400M? What is my goal? Have I been selfish with the body I have been given?

I cried when the coach walked out to encourage him and then I lost it when the whole class began walking and cheering. What a great encouragement for that little kid!

Get off the couch, get up and move!

Goals and Achievements

"Set goals and relentlessly
pursue them."- Tim Morrill

This week I have come across several people that are taking that exact advice, myself included.

My husband went from 216 pounds down to 158 pounds in a matter of months because he set a goal to get healthy and relentlessly pursued it (with the help of my cooking I might add!)

I have a friend that started a weight loss program and has lost over 50 lbs.a in a matter of 5 months and she set a goal to shop at store that sold regular sizes and today she was in a shirt that was an XL and it was big on her. She set that goal and continues to pursue it.

All 14 of the girls on the run girls set a goal to run a 5k and they too pursued and accomplished their goal.

What is your Goal? How will you achieve it? What are you doing to pursue it? What will your goal be after you have achieved your current goal?

My goal was to do a push-up. With the help of my husband and my friend Tim, I accomplished and surpassed that goal. I am not doing several push-ups, I can do a chin-up and I work on it almost every night. Now that that goal is accomplished, I set a new goal. I believe we should always have a goal in mind so we are driven to be the best we can be.
My goal is to tone up and get my core into shape. I am currently starting to swim, continuing to run, adding some biking and looking around at different core workouts. Part of this goal is limiting fruit and cutting out sweets, hardest part for me but I am 6 days in and I already notice a change.

My first 5k ~Love the Run Your With~

This past Sunday, was my first 5k. I accomplished my goal! It was a fantastic, freezing, snowy day. I never could have done this without the support of my husband, family, and sister Kimberly. Thanks so much to all of them for believing that I could do this. I must say, the day of the race, I was NERVOUS!! I had the butterflies. As we got closer, the butterflies got worse. It was so cold, wet, and snowy. I knew I had to accomplish this. I wanted to better myself. I knew that I could do it. I didn't want to let my family down or myself down. I had in my mind the whole time, that I WASN'T going to to WIN and that I WASN'T going to be LAST! Kimberly and I got into line to get ready, there to the right of me standing on the curb was my "fan club" the ones who stood behind me the whole time during my training. (my poor husband had to stay in the coffee shop, it was way too cold for our 8 month old daughter to be outside. I knew he was rooting for me.) I felt great! We started off, up this steep hill (REALLY) I started freaking out! Do I SERIOUSLY have to climb this? I didn't train for any MOUNTAIN CLIMBING!! Finally, it evened out and it was great! I felt good, energized, and did I mention, freezing?! 10 minutes into the race, I noticed people running back to the finish line, WE JUST STARTED PEOPLE WHY ARE THEY FINISHED ALREADY?! (oh, how I want to be you right now, I want to be finished!) One mile sign, round the corner, 2 mile marker... See a large man... Ok, my goal... BEAT him.... round the corner... HELLO WIND! Large man... gone... goal dismissed! Large woman... beat her... I GOT THIS, oh its so cold! (forgot to mention, in the beginning the large hill... we get to run DOWN that hill) 3 miles... ALMOST THERE! The wind slowed me down quite a bit, but I pushed back. I kept pushing myself. I would set my self goals to run to. I of course went passed my goals. (felt great about that) Top of the hill, RUNNNN!!! I felt awesome!! Finish line nearing, hand in hand with my sister.... WE CROSSED IT! WOW, never felt so emotinal over a run! I definetly want to do this again! (warm weather of course) I am so happy, that I was able to achieve this. Thanks again to my sister and family for the encouragement! Looking forward to more runs with you Kimberly!!

Fan club wishing me luck at 7am before we left for the race!!
